Subways (Underpasses)
Ultimately the railroad tracks were elevated from the area at the viaducts, to the south to about 12th Street. This included the construction of retaining structures, and "subways" or underpasses at 14th, 18th, and 20th Streets. These portals carry the date 1931. The 18th Street underpass is shown in the photo.
