Housing

These images are from the Historic American Engineering Record, on the Library of Congress web site.  They have been cropped by the author.

The housing was really in a neighborhood setting.  This view is looking north from the plant & shop area.

One consideration is that everyone likely walked to work.  This in turn meant that all housing, regardless of rank had to be close together.  So, one can see that although the houses showed that rank had its privileges, the proximity of the president's house to the worker housing was remarkable.
