TCI Muscoda Mines

1937 Photos

These images are from the Farm Security Administration (FSA/OWI), on the Library of Congress web site.  Both images are from the Rothstein photos in this collection and were taken in 1937.

This store was most likely located adjacent to the No. 4 plant & shops area, in the bend of the road above Hwy. 150.

A store with adjacent food stands shows at this location in engineering drawings of the Muscoda community.

This view of a mine site is believed to be Muscoda No. 4.  However, a comparison of the buildings to the 1995 era photos shows changes.

The long building with the cupola roof is believed to be the shop building at No. 4, but it is believed that the cupola was removed.

Compare the skylight pattern on the roof of this building with the one in the HAER photos and see that the appear to match. (Try mouse over this image.)

Also, the hoist house in the background below the tipple seems to be a match to the 1995 era photos.
