In this view, the top of the tramway embankment is shown, and a large depression is in the foreground left.  This turned out to be the entrance for a drainage culvert, to carry surface drainage from one side of the tramway to the other.  This is good evidence that the tram system was built to last, and that proper engineering considerations such as drainage were taken into account.
